In industrial sterilisation facilities, the integrity of process pipework is fundamental to safe and compliant operation. In fact, systems handling fluids such as ethylene oxide demand an exceptional level of technical precision — not only in the welding process itself, but also in the materials selected and the procedures followed. For this reason, every joint, every weld and every connection must be executed without compromise.
The Project
It was precisely to meet that standard that Qualysteel Group was contracted to carry out the fabrication and assembly of process pipework as part of a sterilisation plant expansion at the Ionisos facility in Clèves, Germany. The scope covered the fabrication and installation of feed pipework for skid controllers and converters, as well as for the sterilisation chambers themselves. Furthermore, the fluid systems involved included ethylene oxide gas, hot water, steam and cold water — each requiring specific technical attention in terms of material selection and execution. Welding Execution and Materials
With regard to welding, all works were carried out using the GTAW process — the recognised standard for high-integrity industrial pipework. Because the systems involved both carbon steel and stainless steel 316L, the approach to each material was adapted accordingly. In particular, all stainless steel welds were executed with full inert gas purging, thereby eliminating internal oxidation and ensuring a clean, contamination-free weld root. Consequently, every joint was delivered in full compliance with the technical and safety requirements of the project. Qualified Team. Controlled Execution.
What sets Qualysteel Group apart on projects of this nature is, above all, the deployment of a qualified and experienced team that understands the demands of regulated industrial environments. Therefore, execution was managed with strict procedural control at every phase — from spool fabrication through to final assembly and system handover. In short, the client received a fully compliant pipework system, delivered by a single specialist team with no subcontracting risk.
